Getting Started with RestoreAssist — Create Your First Inspection, Moisture Map & Scope in Minutes

Welcome to RestoreAssist

RestoreAssist is a purpose-built inspection and documentation platform for Australian water damage restoration technicians. It combines moisture mapping, equipment calculation, scope generation, and insurance reporting into a single workflow — replacing the disconnected combination of spreadsheets, photo apps, and word processor templates that most restoration companies currently use. This guide walks through the core workflow from creating your first inspection to generating an insurance-ready report.

Step 1: Create a New Inspection

From the dashboard, select 'New Inspection'. Enter the site address — RestoreAssist includes Australian address autocomplete powered by OpenStreetMap, which will populate the suburb, state, and postcode automatically. Complete the job header: - **Water Category**: Select Category 1, 2, or 3 based on the contamination level of the water source - **Damage Class**: Select Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 based on the extent of material absorption - **Loss Date**: The date and time of the loss event (used to calculate elapsed time for category escalation) - **Attending Technician**: Your name and IICRC certification number The Category and Class selections drive subsequent calculations throughout the inspection — equipment ratios, material dry standards, and scope line items are all generated from these two inputs.

Step 2: Build the Moisture Map

The moisture mapping canvas is an SVG-based floor plan tool. For a new property, you can sketch the floor plan using the room drawing tool, or upload an existing floor plan as a background underlay. For each affected room: 1. Place moisture reading markers at each grid point (floor, wall heights 0–100 cm, control areas) 2. Enter the moisture reading value for each marker 3. RestoreAssist automatically colour-codes readings against the IICRC S500 Appendix C threshold for the material type assigned to that point (red for wet, amber for transition zone, green for dry) The moisture map updates in real time as you enter readings, giving you an immediate visual representation of the affected area.

Step 3: Run the Equipment Calculator

With the damage class and affected area established from the moisture map, navigate to the Equipment Calculator. The calculator uses IICRC S500:2021 Appendix B ratios to calculate: - Number of air movers required - Dehumidifier capacity required (L/day) and recommended unit quantity - Air scrubber requirement (based on category and affected volume) - AS/NZS 3012:2019 electrical load check (80% circuit capacity rule) Equipment items are added to the scope automatically, with Appendix B references embedded in the line item justification.

Step 4: Generate the Scope Narrative

The scope generation tool uses the inspection data — category, class, affected materials, moisture readings, and equipment selections — to produce a structured scope narrative. The narrative is generated using the Claude AI system and includes: - Executive summary of the loss event and assessment findings - IICRC S500:2021 category and class determination with basis - Affected area description with moisture map reference - Proposed methodology for each affected material - Equipment specification with IICRC Appendix B justification - Drying goal and monitoring plan - Estimated drying duration The narrative is editable before export, allowing the technician to add site-specific observations or revise any section.

Step 5: Export the Insurance Report

The final report package includes the scope narrative, moisture map, photo documentation, equipment list, and the company header. It exports to PDF in a format designed for direct submission to insurance adjusters. All documentation is stored in the RestoreAssist cloud, accessible from any device, and linked to the inspection record for future daily monitoring updates.
