Every photo you take through RestoreAssist carries a cryptographic chain-of-custody record. This is what insurers and tribunals look for under IICRC S500:2025 §7.1.

What gets captured
- SHA-256 hash of the photo bytes
- UTC timestamp (camera local + server time, both recorded)
- GPS coordinates (lat/lng from device, accuracy in meters)
- User ID hash (who took it)
- Device hint (iOS/Android model)
How to take a photo
On the inspection-detail page, tap the camera floating-action button.
Permission prompts on first use:
- Camera — required
- Location — required for GPS in cocoa record
- Photo library — optional, only if you want to pick existing photos
Tagging photos
Each photo gets a tag (e.g. Ceiling-Bedroom 1) so it groups in the report. Tag it during capture; you can re-tag from the photo grid later.
Verifying chain-of-custody
In the inspection's photo grid, the green-check icon next to each photo confirms cocoa is valid. Click any photo to see its full cocoa record.
